hair removal (nd yag)

Unwanted hair from excessive or inappropriate hair growth may appear for a variety of reasons. This can cause immense distress and affect self esteem. Methods such as shaving, waxing, chemical removal and electrolysis all have significant limitations and are not always appropriate or effective. Now doctors have discovered that the use of laser technology has revolutionised the process of removing unwanted hair.

The Hampshire Laser Clinic can now offer a treatment which is more permanent and effective than other treatments.

Before and after hair removal treatments

How Does it Work?

The laser emits an intense beam of light which passes safely through the upper skin layers to the underlying strata. Hair follicles are then eliminated by a process known as selective photothermolysis, which treats the problem without harming the skin.

Is the Process Safe?

The Hampshire Laser Clinic's laser is safe and effective. Treatment of all skin types is now possible safely. Operators are licensed doctors or nurses well-trained in the proper and safe use of the laser.

How Does it Feel?

The laser emits only light. You may feel a tingling or snapping sensation like a rubber band. The cooling system can reduce any discomfort. No pain medication is needed. It is generally accepted that laser hair removal is more comfortable than waxing or electrolysis and has a far superior recovery rate.

Differences Between Laser Hair Removal and Traditional Methods

Mechanical methods of hair removal provide only temporary results. These include shaving, waxing, tweezing, and epilation. These methods remove the hair but leave the hair follicles intact. The hair regrows within one to four weeks in most cases.

Until now, electrolysis has provided the only long-term method for the elimination of unwanted hair. During elecrolysis, a needle is inserted into each hair follicle. Removing one hair at a time, this process is tedious. It can take years of treatment to achieve a satisfactory result. The effectiveness is also dependent on the skill of the electrologist. Electrolysis can sometimes cause folliculitis, infection and scarring.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

Due to the natural growth cycle of each hair follicle several treatments may be required to achieve optimal results. Each hair follicle goes through growing and resting phases, but hair is most sensitive to laser treatment whilst in the growing (anagen) phase. In most patients successful removal can be achieved following a short course of treatments.

Which Area of the Body can be treated?

The laser works well on any area. Most women are particularly interested in laser hair removal of facial hairs on the upper lip or chin, as well as cheeks, legs, arms, underarms, back and sensitive areas like the ears, chest and bikini line.

Men are often interested in removing excess eyebrow hairs, especially across the bridge of the nose. Excess hairs on the chest and back can also be treated.

What is the cost?

The cost of each treatment varies. The cost is directly associated with the time it takes to treat certain areas.
